3) The sculptures below are only 4 years old. Notice how the sculptures above have a style that is similar to the sculptures found in our very own downtown Howell:
4) Our downtown Howell sculpture has a history. The sculptor, above, learned from the artists of the past and used their ideas to generate new ideas. Each piece of art builds upon the art that came before it! When we see art we are changed and the art we make afterwards is changed too. That's why outdoor sculpture exhibitions are so important. Without sculptors sharing their art and their creative ideas with the world, the history of sculpture remains hidden. Hiding art history makes it so we can't learn from past artists. As a result, art can't change, grow and become new.
Idea #2:
Outdoor art exhibits create a place for new art history to begin! By visiting outdoor art you become a part of art history!
People put great effort into outdoor art installations because they realize how important it is for people to see art everywhere: indoors and outdoors. This is why the Museum of Modern Art created this outdoor sculpture garden:

The Museum of Modern Art is a very famous art museum. Many people come to see this museum's art every day. As people come to see the MOMA Outdoor Sculpture Garden, the history of sculpture is being shared and new history is being made. People walk away from the exhibit changed.
As you notice outdoor art..........
in front of the library
as your car gets parked behind Cleary's
when you visit downtown Brighton
or enjoy the sculptures at Oaken Transformations
.......you are being changed by what you see. As you, and others, are changed by art there will be shifts in art history. After viewing an outdoor exhibit, you might go home and make a piece of art that's different than the piece you created yesterday. You might share a new idea about art with a friend or neighbor. You might visit an exhibit you might not have wanted to visit before. For every new action there is a reaction. If you change a little bit, the world changes a little bit with you.
Outdoor art is seen by a lot of people, so it has a pretty big influence. Consider how the world changes when 5,000 people view an outdoor art exhibit. 5,000 people have seen something new and now they all have something new to share with the world.
This page is the finale for the "History of Outdoor Sculpture in Our Community" study! The finale will review this unit's top two ideas .
